Analytical Ultracentrifuges

Analytical Ultracentrifugation (AUC) is a first-principles, solution-phase technique that characterizes macromolecules and nanoparticles directly in their native buffer. Under very high centrifugal force, species sediment according to their mass, shape, and buoyant density, allowing high-resolution profiling of aggregates, fragments, and distinct particle populations (e.g., empty vs full AAV capsids).

Typical Applications

AAV: empty / partial / full capsid distribution

Protein therapeutics: aggregate/oligomer quantitation without a column

Orthogonal confirmation of particle heterogeneity seen by SEC-MALS or AF4-MALS
